“The Love and Relationship
Stimulus Package”

Wednesday’s show will center on 3 phases of romantic relationships. The first phase will focus on before a relationship actually occurs. It will focus on the standards men and women set for themselves when searching for a mate and the ups and downs of dating. Phase one will pose the question are people choosing their mate or are they being chosen? It will also focus on how to be realistic in our approach to finding a mate, by learning to understand what a person needs, wants and deserves in a mate when looking for a possible long-term romantic relationship.

The second phase will deal with how to handle a romantic relationship once people get past phase one. It will talk about learning to accept your mate and not to expect perfection, why communication and honesty is key and how to pace a relationship. I think a lot of people get caught up in the euphoria of a relationship when it begins or they become mesmerized by physical attraction, which causes us a lot of times to rush judgment on people. We want to talk about how to go deeper than that and also learning how to make the choice of love opposed to falling in love! Also it will explain why even though love is key, it takes more than love to sustain a successful romantic relationship!

The final phase will deal with how to recover and move on when a romantic relationship fails. When a break-up occurs it happens for a reason and it will talk about understanding those reasons, it will pose the question by asking is the relationship worth salvaging and it will explain the common mistakes made by broken up couples that prevent them from moving forward successfully. This phase will give people some options on how to not prolong old romantic relationships that are not working and it will also give some choices on what to do before starting another romantic relationship. I think a lot of times people take the excess baggage into new relationships! We are going to give them some tips on how get rid of those bags so they can move forward successfully into a full-filling romantic relationship by using their previous relationship as a learning tool and not a burden.

My expectation that this will spark interesting and entertaining conversation, but also my hope is that people will leave with a solid message so that if need be they may use what we have discussed in their lives. I always find it amazing and entertaining when single people talk about what they want in a romantic relationship. I think these 3 phases will address a lot of subjects within the subject itself…..

Tre Alee’s Cheating Thoughts

by Tre Alee on Sep.30, 2009, under My thoughts

The other day a question was asked of me by a good friend and I want to share it. She simply asked, what actions do I think are considered cheating? I was taken aback because I believe that a lot of different actions can be considered cheating when in relationships, but everyone views them differently. Meaning, I may consider flirting as just a friendly action that doesn’t depict cheating, whereas someone else will say that flirting with someone other than your mate, friendly flirting or otherwise is without a doubt a form of cheating.

So in light of tonight’s subject matter on Blog Talk Radio Live with NEKO CHERI and SUN, “Your Relationship Stimulus Package”, I ask the question, what is cheating to you? This may not necessarily have anything directly to do with the subject on tonight’s show, but my question encompasses issues in relationships also. Your responses are for my own personal interest. Quick plug, check out hot subject matter and my interview on the show tonight starting at 8:30pm until 10:30pm Eastern time. Link is: www.blogtalkradio.com/nekocherilive and the call in number is 347-855-8673 press 1 to talk.

Now, I feel that there are many forms of cheating, but as I said previously I view some actions differently than others. I think there are boundaries to everything and you know which ones should not be crossed. I also know that people cheat for various reasons. There are a number of people out there who stray from their relationships because they believe that it’s okay, that they won’t get caught or because it’s excitement of the challenge. But then there are those who cheat because they are truly lacking something meaningful, tangible and loving within their relationship. By no means am I saying that cheating is right, I have cheated and have been cheated on, but sometimes there are reasons that people do what they do.

I’ve learned that when something is missing between the two people that made commitments to one another, whether it be marriage or otherwise, one or both are bound to stray. This is why I emphatically believe in verbal communication at all times. In addition I believe that intimacy, physical closeness, romance, flirtatiousness with your mate, compliments, date time, cuddle time, love making mentally and physically, supporting what the other one does whether it’s your area of enjoyment or not are just some of what a relationship needs to grow. Basically, whatever you did to get the one you’re with, it shouldn’t stop just because you “have them” now. If you got your hair done before you got married, don’t stop looking beautiful once you said “I do” (and that’s not just for married folks lol). If you rubbed his back and kissed him passionately when he went on a business trip in the beginning during the honeymoon stage of your relationship, keep sending him away on trips happy even after years have passed!

As my song Sweet Sexation says, “I’m not an expert on love, but I know what I’ve been needing from you.” Every single one of us knows what we need from a relationship and from a person to stimulate, sustain, nurture  and keep us happy, even through the disagreements. If by chance they aren’t doing it, THEN TELL THEM! Let cheating be your last resort. I firmly believe that no matter how long you have been with someone that the honeymoon doesn’t have to stop after some months have passed. My parents have been together for fifty-three years, married for forty-eight and they still kiss, kind of gross LOL and they also still go on dates. So figure out your stimulus package and make it work. I believe in falling in love everyday with the one you’re with. Now if the love is gone and the boat can’t be fixed, well then that’s a show for Oprah. Tune in, I’m sure she will have something like that on her show again soon LOL.

So again I ask, what is cheating to you?

Tre Alee Feeling Sorority Love

by Tre Alee on Sep.28, 2009, under My thoughts

Growing up I frequently saw media coverage of Sororities and Fraternities, at historically black colleges mainly, and I was always intrigued. Even though the life caught my attention, I never had a desire to be part of a sorority. I knew they were doing great things and the bond of sisterhood was evident, I was just more interested in beating up boys and praying that I passed the next class. Nonetheless, I remained intrigued by what I saw.

Today I’m still not a part of a sorority, but there is one sorority that gives me much love and support, Delta Sigma Theta.

On Friday, September 25th, the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Iota at Northeastern University showed me much love and respect at the Crimson Café. I was surrounded by unbelievable talent and I enjoyed myself thoroughly. I said it before that the Deltas know how to bring it and that place was packed! I was especially blown away by the live band that kept the energy flowing so smoothly. Shout out to the students at Berklee, you guys were phenomenal!

Although the Deltas represent and bring it on a regular, the chapter that is near and dear to my heart is Norfolk-Plymouth County Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta. Last night I had a video performance and as always the ladies from this particular chapter came out full force to cheer me on. They brought energy, love, support and laughter and left me with an unforgettable memory. The beauty of it all is that they brought other people with them to show support. Needless to say, we had a ball!

So I extend my love and thanks to Norfolk-Plymouth County Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta for your continuous support. You are a classy group of women. I also say thank you to Delta Sigma Theta Iota for welcoming me and having me be a part of your successful event. Keep doing it and doing it well, like I know you will.

Before I end this, I give so much of my heart and love to team Tre Alee for your continuous efforts of seeing my vision and running with it full steam ahead. I could not pull any of this off without you guys. Lastly, to Tchesco from Tamboo, you are a jewel! Thank you for always making what I do easy and for coming out on your day off to make what I needed a success.

I say it all of the time that I am blessed beyond measure for having such wonderful and beautiful people strategically placed in my life. I’m expecting great things!

And So I Wrote Reap

by Tre Alee on Sep.25, 2009, under My thoughts

Okay, I’ve given the reason behind The First Blow and Straight with Options and now it’s the motivation of And So Shall You Reap.

There’s no big earth shattering reason behind this novel in the sense of something I have witnessed or anything of that nature. A short story of like six pages was given to me by my good friend, Donnell, and he asked if I would write the story. At first when I glanced over the six pages I thought to myself, “How the hell am I supposed to transform this into a novel”, but then I actually started reading it. The content, even though it wasn’t written in a novel format, was very captivating. In six pages he had a storyline, background info on characters, drama, ending result and overall great character dialogue. Stories with crazy drama seem to grab our attention and his short story really caught mine.

I actually held on to his story, which was originally titled Reapers of the Heart, for about two years or so. Then one day I found the hard copy of it again and knew that I had to take the time to write the story. Reapers of the Heart and And So Shall You Reap are very different, yet in a lot of ways similar. I wanted to still use his story as the base, but still put my own twists to it. Trust me, there are a few twists.

 So there you have it.

Reason behind Straight with Options

by Tre Alee on Sep.24, 2009, under My thoughts

A few years ago I got the idea for this story and started writing it because of something I have seen. Again, the story itself and the events surrounding the storyline are not about anyone in particular, but what I have witnessed is the inspiration behind the book.

I have observed a straight or better yet, a heterosexual woman approach another woman with boldness due to her physical or sexual attraction to that female. I have always been fascinated by this only because I didn’t understand exactly why it happens and I still don’t, well not completely. Fact of the matter is, this type of thing happens quite often.

There are so many straight women who are comfortable in their straightness who find themselves infatuated, intrigued or attracted to another female for many reasons. As I understand it, it’s only that ONE female that they are captivated by. It may be the swagger, sex appeal or flip-flop personality of the other woman that causes curiosity, but whatever it is, its how Straight with Options came about.

By no means is the subject matter of the book strictly about what I have described, it’s about something deeper. I really believe that the woman to woman attraction is a very small part of the story even though it’s evident in the book. The novel is more about friendship, love and acceptance of whatever situation a person may be faced with. Betrayal, unfaithfulness and dishonesty are also key factors in the book, but friendship in my opinion is what I feel the story is really about. Definitely read it for yourself to find out what I mean.

Now the story title, Straight with Options actually came from a close friend of mine who immediately came up with the title after reading the manuscript. Initially I wanted to call it “Straight”, but that title was taken and I also felt that the “with Options” sparked curiosity better. So there you have it, the reason behind Straight with Options.

Is this the whole truth and nothing but the truth? Or did I leave something out? I guess that’s for me to know…LOL.

Why The First Blow?

by Tre Alee on Sep.23, 2009, under My thoughts

Since I have been writing fiction novels people have asked me one main question, why did I write a particular story? So for my next few blogs I’m going to answer the question. The following blog coming later in the week will actually be extremely personal on why I wrote Straight with Options, but I’m cool with letting you inside my thought process just a little bit.

In May 2006, I self published my first fiction novel, The First Blow. Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect writing such an explicit story and I was nervous as to what people would think about it. It was also my trial and error as far as allowing the public to read my work. Thankfully it did okay and I traveled to a few places talking about the story.

The First Blow deals with an African American professional couple who finds romance and love with one another. Like most romances start off, it was good and the sex was amazing. But over time something changed in both characters. The male character, Anthony Kyle Waters became possessive as well as verbally and physically abusive to his partner, Pamela Lynnette Crosby. I had to tackle some issues of domestic violence that literally felt like a dark cloud hung over my head while I wrote the more abusive scenes. Quite frankly, some of it was very difficult for me to write about.

A lot of people who read the book automatically assumed that the story was loosely about me because of how I wrote the story so explicitly. But I say it again, it was not based on my life or anyone else’s life that I knew of. I just needed to write about a subject that exists even in the African American community. Fact is, when I looked at talk shows and if the topic dealt with domestic violence, the guests were usually from other races and very rarely from the black folks. I knew then that I had to write about it because I felt that even though we don’t see it, doesn’t mean that it’s not there.

As black women, we’re the first to say, “Oh no, there is no way a man is going to lay a hand on me. I would hurt him bad and it would be over!” We say it and mean it, but as black women we have been taught to be strong, courageous and an abusive man is a no, no. But I also realized that because we are so strong that if abuse did occur in our relationships, we would cover it up so that others wouldn’t think that we are weak by allowing someone to abuse us. So I thought from the perspective of, there are probably some beautiful and strong black women out there who have yielded to the hands of an abuser, but are too ashamed to talk openly about it. They probably stay in the situation because of fear and because they don’t want anyone else to know.

I have learned that we don’t always know who we fall in love with and most times signs of abuse are more evident once our hearts are involved. It doesn’t make you weak, it just means that you fell for the wrong person. I have also come to understand from talking to women who have come out and shared that The First Blow was their story, that you can come out stronger and better than ever. When I began to hear so many stories from black women about their abuse, then I knew I wrote the right story. All I can say is, sometimes there are small signs of potential abuse and if you see red flags all over the place, heed to them and get out fast.

At present, I’m working on the sequel to The First Blow because people want to get deeper into the life and mind of Anthony Kyle Waters to figure out how he got so crazy. So look out for that, it’s coming. You can also still buy the book!

Tre’s REZIZTANZE

by admin on Sep.21, 2009, under My thoughts

I enjoy the life of entertainment immensely not just because I’m given a plateau to share my music, my voice and my novels, but also because I’m able to meet such great people along the way. The great thing about it all is that, I meet people who have such remarkable attitudes and I find pleasure in being around them. Today I experienced that by being in the company of a group of men who are taking the hip-hop scene by storm. REZIZTANZE, a group from Providence, Rhode Island, are nothing less than humorous, passionate about music, down to earth and great representations of hip-hop entertainers.

I had the privilege of interviewing each of them today and getting to know each individual one by one. Needless to say, those brothers had my stomach in knots. It’s amazing how a group of men can be so passionate about their music, each other as friends and brothers and the group as a whole yet still be so hilarious.

The group consists of, Uncle Prince, Big Brother C-Smoothe, Contak, and Sir Kenneth of Lexington. I promise you this much, the hip-hop world is not ready for them because they are eager to speak the truth and shoot straight from the heart, mind and soul. But whether people are ready for them or not, REZIZTANZE is about to take over the rap game and everyone will have to take notice of these talented brothers.

I look forward to working with them in the near future and just having the opportunity to see them live all around Providence and soon, Providence won’t be able to hold them. After speaking with them, they are determined to be known around the globe and at the pace they are going, they will definitely make it happen.

REZIZTANZE, it was my indeed pleasure meeting you all and I definitely look forward to your show and other collaborations.

Tre Alee’s Epiphany

by Tre Alee on Sep.18, 2009, under My thoughts

I woke up this morning not feeling my best physically due to being under the weather all week, but I still opened my eyes thanking God for another day. Even though I didn’t feel quite like myself, my excitement and anticipation was just as strong as if I were feeling 100%.

As I sit here and write, my heart is overjoyed by all that is beginning to manifest in my life. At times I have wondered if I deserve all that God has given me based on my past and present mistakes. Then I thought to myself, heck yeah I deserve it because if I didn’t He would not have gifted me like He has. I figure, what better way to repay God for His many blessings than to do my craft and do it well. Not only that, but by treating people in my life, whether they are strangers, friends, family or business associates, the way I desire to be treated. It sounds simple enough, but it’s not always easy. I have just come to have a great love for people no matter who they are or where they are from.

One reason why I wake up every morning thanking God and expecting something great to happen is because that’s what I’m supposed to do. That’s what He expects me to do. In fact, that’s what we’re all supposed to do. Plus I know that one of these mornings and it won’t be long, you’ll look for me…LOL…sorry that’s a lead in to a church song. But seriously, I’ll awake doing what I love, dream about and long for, full-time. Trust me, I don’t believe that when I’m able to do what I love full-time that it’s going to be easy because it’s not easy now, especially since my publicist, David, is working me big time. He has a sister sweating, but I’m loving every minute of it! Okay, I got a little off track, but all and all doing what I love as a full-time career will be FUN because I’m having a blast now creating novels, music and new ideas. I will receive gratification knowing that all my hard work is paying off and that people are enjoying what I do.

I have a long way to go and I’m still learning and no matter what, I will always put my best forward while thanking God and all who have supported me, along that way. So in saying that, thank you God and thank you to everyone who reads this and who supports what I do.
