Tre Alee’s R&B and Gospel Soul
by Tre Alee on Sep.17, 2009, under My thoughts
Music, music and more music is the passion of my existence outside of God. My root and first love when it comes to music is gospel. Being raised in the church I was surrounded by gospel in the home, in church or I was able to hear the beautiful sounds come from my mother’s melodic voice. My goodness, that was the best sound to hear and still is.
Although gospel music was primarily in my home as a child, I was allowed to listen to R&B when my parents really discovered that I loved the sounds of all types of good music. One minute I would be listening to Walter Hawkins, Keith Pringle, Georgia Mass Choir, Milton Brunson and then I would switch to the sounds of Whitney Houston, The SOS Band, Anita Baker, The Gap Band or any singer or group that was saying something. Little do people know, I also used to love Rock and Roll bands like Bon Jovi, Journey, and Lover Boy. To date, I still love Bon Jovi and gained an admiration for Maroon 5, Cold Play and Sting (always one of my favorites) to name a few.
I can’t begin to express how happy I was when I could hold a note or two that didn’t slip off key. It felt like the best cold glass of satisfying ice water on a scorching day. What was more gratifying was the ability to share that same glass of water with others who were thirsty for good soothing music. I was even more grateful that they wanted to indulge in the music that I sang or wrote; drinking from my glass of water, what a feeling!
I’m inspired by soulful music that touches the insides of me like no other. Tre Alee just loves the sounds of what is good and filling.
When I write music, I tend to give people an inside track into my feelings. I may write novels that are fiction, but I write songs or sing songs that apply to me based off of experience, feelings or thoughts. If you want to know where I am in my life or how I’m feeling inside, listen to my music.
Now I think…what is the one song that touched me to the core of my being the first time I heard it? At first I couldn’t think of one because there are so many songs that move me, but then it hit. The one song that has stayed with me and causes goose bumps form on my arms every time I hear it is…Safe in His Arms, by Milton Brunson.
Let me in on the song that made you want to cry, make love, rejoice or just made you feel good. Tell me your song and the meaning behind it.
